Canada’s Suuns are a creepy bunch. Or, at least, on the evidence of their super debut LP, it’s safe to assume they are. The opening ‘Armed For Peace’ begins as a John Carpenter-esque crawl of synthesised doom, before erupting into a tripping guitar motif that suggests there’s a fair degree of axe experimentation to come. Indeed, there’s plenty of chug in the tracks the follow, but it’s all done with a pleasing impishness and willingness to let ideas rule, be they beaten artrock riffs or incessant handclaps. This could already be one of the debuts of the year.
